Showcase the Dales

Ice Breakers

In March, two leaders represented Ingleborough District at a ‘Showcase the Dales’ familiarisation workshop for Duke of Edinburgh and Scout expedition leaders. After the introductions, the participants moved to the car park for two active ice breakers, before returning indoors to hear from a National Park Ranger about navigating around the National Park, public rights of way and open access Land. Dave Skinner, North Yorkshire DofE Operations Officer, talked about the recent changes to rules. Two local farmers gave their perspective on walkers travelling across their land and the damage they can do. Finally, Rae Lonsdale, from the Cave Rescue Organisation, explained how to call for assistance and CRO’s involvement in expedition mishaps. The session culminated in a visit to the Cave Rescue Organisation depot and a tour of Ingleborough Hall. Throughout the day there was plenty of discussion and sharing of knowledge, making the event worthwhile.
