It was cheers all round when news came through that the District application for a grant of nearly £10,000 from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) for the refurbishment of the District kit store had been successful. Professional work can now start on replacing the roof of the former weighbridge, along with the renewal of the electrical wiring, followed by other maintenance jobs. Scouts & Explorers Go Back to Basics

As Cubs are attending the County Cub Camp, ‘Be the Spark’, this year the District is organising a summer camp for Scouts and Explorers.

The event will be held near Silverdale at SilverHelme Campsite, a new venue for us, which is managed by Lonsdale District Scouts. Set in eighteen acres of natural woodland, mainly oak, ash, yew, hazel and holly, the venue, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is ideal for this year’s chosen theme, ‘Back Woods’. St George’s Day

This year Clapham is the venue for the District’s St George’s Day celebrations.

After meeting at the car park, members will walk to Ingleborough Hall to take part in a short Thanksgiving and Renewal of Promises Ceremony, followed by a packed lunch during which the judging of shields made by the youth members before the event will take place.

All Go for Settle Explorers

Recently, when Settle Explorers were practising for their pioneering badge, they chose to build monkey bars which required lashings of lashings! Two support pillars and one ladder later, they tested it out. It was good fun but not built to last, so some members held their breath as Explorer Leader, James Armstrong, stood up!

Beetle Drive

Beetle Drive Success

Ingleton Scout Group held their latest fund raising event in the midst of Storm Dennis, when the rain lashed down and the wind howled. The event, a Beetle Drive, which, despite the appalling weather conditions, attracted 24 participants.

There was a Raffle and Lucky Dip and, as well as a lot of fun, the players enjoyed a tasty plate of pie and peas, washed down with teas and coffees.

By the end of the evening, a welcome £144 had been raised for Group funds.
